Adding Custom Fields to Your Contacts
Feature Update: Custom Fields
One thing that we often hear from our users is the desire to have the ability to add custom information to contacts on Markd.
Originally, we included 5 different types of information for contacts in Markd: tags, URLs, descriptions, images, and notes. However there are times when you want more flexibility in how you contextualise information around a person. Maybe you want to have a field for people’s favourite type of cuisines, or how much they charge for their service.
We experimented with a few different designs to accommodate this idea of being able to add your own type of information, and decided on an implementation that hopefully is easy to get started with yet gives us room to make it more powerful overtime.
Start by clicking on the “add custom field” button at the bottom of a mark, then selecting the data type and giving the field a name. Once a new custom field is created, it can be re-used in any other mark as it shows up at the top of the drop-down menu.
Step-by-Step Guide:
Click on “add custom field”
Select a data type. There are three types at the moment (text, email, checkbox), with more types to come (let us know in the comments what you’d like to see!)
Give this new custom field a name. Ex. Location, Languages, Work Email, Favourite Colour…etc.
A new field will be added to this mark. You can fill in the information you wanted to add to it now.
When you are on a different mark, you can select and add this field to this new person as well. The custom fields you’ve created are listed at the top of the drop-down menu

Another key reason for us to work on custom fields is to prepare for future features such as importing your contacts from other platforms, and potentially synchronising with other services. This gives us the flexibility to include other types of information, many of which we probably haven’t thought of.
Give it a go and let us know your thoughts in the comments area below or click on that feedback button!
